How to lighten underarms

For some people, dark underarms can be an embarrassment and the fear of anyone catching a glimpse of your dark underarm can leave you wearing only long sleeve tops and blouses. Dark, discolored underarms can be caused from to shaving, accumulation of dead cells, excessive sweating, improper ventilation, usage of certain deodorants, etc.

You can lighten your underarms with natural and safe remedies. These natural remedies are also budget friendly.

1. Potatoes

Potatoes are great for removing pigmentation and discoloration in the underarms. Peel a potato, grate it and squeeze out the juice. Apply the juice directly on the underarms, leave for 10 – 15 minutes and then rinse off. Repeat the remedy often till you get the desired result. Alternatively, you can also rub the potato slices on your underarms. The potatoes have properties that help in smoothing and softening the skin.

2. Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe Vera’s antibacterial nature soothes inflamed skin and lightens discolored underarms. Cut open a fresh leaf and extract some fresh gel. Apply a layer of the gel on your underarms, leave to dry for 10 – 15 minutes. Rinse off with water. Use every day till you get your results. 

3. Cucumbers

Cucumbers are filled with a number of vitamins and minerals and they have natural bleaching properties. To apply, rub a few cucumber slices on your dark underarms for 1 – 2 minutes and let its juice sit on your skin for another 10 mins, then rinse off with water. Repeat the process daily.

4. Sugar And Olive Oil

Sugar acts as an exfoliating agent and when mixed with hydrating and nourishing olive oil, it can work miracles. To apply, add 2 tablespoons each of olive oil and sugar in a bowl and mix together. Dampen the underarm area, scrub in the sugar and olive oil mixture for 1 – 2 minutes. Leave the mixture for another 5 – 10 minutes and then rinse off with water.

5. Baking Soda And Lemon

Baking soda is an incredible exfoliator that unclogs the pores and lightens dark underarms. Lemon is a natural bleaching agent. To apply, mix 1 tablespoon each of baking soda and lemon juice to make a paste. Scrub it over your underarms for about 5 minutes, wash it off using lukewarm water. Repeat it 3 or 4 times a week for effective results.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar 

Apple Cider Vinegar has rich content of amino and lactic acid that helps clear dead skin cells and lessen scars. Its astringent properties unclog the pores and reduce skin darkness. To apply, pour some organic apple cider vinegar on a cotton pad, pat it into the underarm area and leave to dry completely before washing it off. Repeat daily for quick and effective results.
